Solar Heating and Thermoelectrics
by admin on Jun.23, 2009, under Uncategorized
The devices that convert the temperature difference between different materials into electric current are called thermovoltaic or thermoelectric devices. This method of storing electricity was proposed by Mouchout in the 19th century. The Russians revived thermovoltaics as a renewable source of energy during the 1930s under the Soviet scientist Abram Loffe. He developed a volts concentrating system to generate power thermoelectrically, he used the Solar Heating and Solar Lighting They Live by Night dvd White Squall film
to run a 1 horse-power engine.
Thermogenerators have been using Solar Heating of panels of antimony and bismuth to generate electricity, worldover. They were also used by NASA in Cassini, Viking and Galileo deep space missions, where Solar Heating was used to power the probes as an energy conversion technology. The beauty of it is that these probes function even today since launch. The present research is focused on increasing the efficiency of these devices, threefold, to power larger ships and deeper space missions.
